Requirements: It shall be the responsibility of each licensee to maintain a record of all continuing education activity. Each licensee must obtain from the course sponsor and retain for a period of four years an authenticated record of attendance.

MCDS will provide an imprinter and a certificate of attendance at each continuing education program that it sponsors

Credit toward the 40-hour dentist biennial Continuing Education requirement is limited to 7 hours for Practice Management courses.

Updates (1/98):
1. An increase to ten (10) hours (previously five hours) in the number of CE hours earned through CE from audio tape, video tape and correspondence courses with written post-tests.
2. Licensees involved in teaching or research activities at least one full day per week or the equivalent of one full day per week in an academic year, and who hold a part- time faculty or research appointment, shall receive four hours of CE credit for each full day or two hours annually for each half day.
3. The program portion of dinner meetings of constituents and components of professional dental associations will be granted one hour of credit for each hour of instruction as long as the subject matter meets the educational requirements. (Said requirement is as follows: All continuing education credit to be accepted for credit shall have significant intellectual or practical content which deals primarily with matters directly related to the practice of dentistry or with the professional responsibilities or ethical obligations of licensees. Subjects such as estate planning, financial or investment/tax planning, personal health or others so deemed by the Board from time to time, shall not be acceptable for CE credit).
4. A maximum of six hours of CE credit shall be given for basic CPR courses.
5. A maximum of seven hours of CE credit shall be given for practice management/ managed care courses.
The Board also amended the CE regulations to require that licensees wishing to resume the practice of dentistry in the state submit proof of completion of 20 hours of CE for each year of inactive or retired registration retroactive to July 16, 1992.
NJDA advises its members that the above amendments pertain to the CE obligation to be fulfilled for the two-year licensing cycle that began November 1, 1997. While the previous licensure cycle was extended until April, 1998, you will be required to attest on the relicensure form that you met the CE obligation for the two-year cycle beginning November 1, 1995, to October 31, 1997. Members are also advised to maintain proof of attendance at CE. The State Board conducts random audits and also requires licensees involved in a patient complaint proceeding to furnish proof that the obligation has been fulfilled. NJDA members can call the Association's office with their questions.

The MCDS will provide an imprinter and a certificate of attendance at each continuing education program that it sponsors.

This seminar will be made available to our members free of charge, as a member benefit of MCDS.
