Diabetes is a growing medical problem, not only in the US but globally. The individual with diabetes often has numerous other medical complications due to the inability to control blood glucose. Of particular interest to the dental profession is the fact that poor oral health can impact control of blood glucose, and that individuals with diabetes are more prone to developing periodontal disease than someone without diabetes. This seminar will provide an overview of the diabetes medical condition, the role that oral health plays and steps that we can take as dental professionals to manage our patients with diabetes.
