NJDA Officers Meeting and New Life Membership Presentations

Come hear the stories behind the legislative and legal battles won on your behalf by NJDA this year from the dedicated officers. This annual event is an opportunity to meet the NJDA Directors and General Counsel and to witness first hand their dedication to our members. You will never ask the question, “What is organized dentistry doing for me?” after this evening. It will provide you with the opportunity to learn how to use NJDA’s vast resources to get the most of your membership. In addition, a special presentation to our deserving New Life Members will be featured. Life Members have been members for 30 consecutive years, or 40 years total. Tonight we honor our members who have reached this milestone in their careers, and acknowledge their contributions.

President's Message - Dr. Genevieve Fernandes

MCDS President

Thank you to all our members that attended our January general meeting at Pines Manor. This New Year has brought in more new members to Middlesex County Dental Society. I would like to welcome all of you as you join the ADA who is our voice in the dental profession.
On Tuesday, February 19th at Pines Manor, Edison, NJ we will have the “NJDA Officers’ Night and Life Member Presentations”. This general meeting will start at 6:00PM with cocktails and Hors d’oeuvres, followed by a sumptuous dinner. Come hear the stories behind the legislative and legal battles won on your behalf by NJDA. This annual event is an opportunity to meet our NJDA President Dr. Alan Rothstein and NJDA Executive Director Mr. Art Meisel. You will be able to witness first hand their dedication to our members. After this evening, you will never ask the question, “What is organized dentistry doing for me?” It will provide you with the opportunity to learn how to use NJDA’s vast resources to get the most of your membership.
In addition, a special presentation to our deserving New Life Members will be featured. Life Members have been members for 30 consecutive years, or 40 years total. At this meeting we will honor our members who have reached this milestone in their careers, and acknowledge their contributions.
As I look at the younger dentists that are amidst us today, I am reminded of my younger days in the midst of seasoned colleagues. Are we filled with benevolence? We must treat each other kindly in order to trust each other, and subsequently have confidence in each other in order to do great things for our association. We are responsible for the experience we want to create by appreciating the abundance around us.
Kindly renew your membership if you haven’t done so as these general meetings at Pines Manor, our monthly newsletters, our NJDA monthly study club meetings are all a member benefit for our MCDS members. In addition, please do contribute to NJDPAC. This political action committee for dentists in the state of New Jersey helps to raise funds to support those who support oral health and the dental profession. We believe that if senators had a better understanding of the intensive education that dentists undergo, their role in delivering oral health care and, most importantly, the degree to which dental disease is almost entirely preventable, our senators would better understand why a dentist must continue to be the leader of the oral health team. Your support is important to our dental profession.
I am honored to serve you as your President, and truly admire the professional recognition of our Life members. My goal is to continue to serve you with the utmost respect as we all make a positive difference in the lives of our patients.

Also, please feel free to invite a colleague and friend, who have not been able to attend any of our regular events, to attend these meetings.
Finally, please try to preregister, so that I am able to have enough material such as handouts prepared prior to the meetings. The registration forms are available on our website and Facebook page. I would like to remind everyone that this Study Club is a Membership Benefit. I am looking forward to seeing everyone.

Two Rutgers University students inquired and were referred to participating dentists for shadowing. The board members felt it would be beneficial to conduct a survey and receive feedback from the students and dentists about their experience.
Mentor - Dr. Nima Mirmadjlessi.
The idea of hosting a series of happy hour social events for member retention was discussed. This would encourage participation specially by the young members. Dr. Mirmadjlessi and Dr. Satwah will look into this further and report back with a proposal.
New Business
Discussed the benefits of MCDS participating in Rutgers Day. This would be good advertising for Rutgers students interested in Dentistry as well as place MCDS and its members in the limelight for dental services. Dr. Ardeshna will look into the logistics and report back.
Respectfully submitted,
