Distinguished Life Members 2016
The following MCDS members are being honored for life membership this year: Richard Heinowitz, John McDonough, Jayant Patel and Steven Resnick.
They have shown a steadfast dedication to their profession and organized dentistry over their careers. They were formally inducted as Life Members at the January 2016 General Meeting. Each new life member was asked to submit their biographical information, and those who chose to do so are recognized below. Those who attended the January meeting have their induction pictures displayed below.
Richard Heinowitz

With over 35 years of experience and expertise in the field, Dr. Richard J. Heinowitz continues to offer optimal dental care to the infants, children, teens and young adults of Monmouth and Middlesex counties. Dr. Heinowitz graduated from Georgetown University, School of Dentistry in 1977. He continued on to complete his specialized training in Pediatric Dentistry at the Eastman Institute for Oral Health at the University of Rochester in 1979. Dr. Heinowitz continues to educate himself on new advancements in the field and lectures regularly on the subject of new technologies in dentistry. He is on staff at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital and he teaches preventive dentistry and new approaches to pediatric dental technologies. As a community service, Dr. Heinowitz and his staff provide a hands-on, educational dental health program to thousands of students in the Monmouth and Middlesex county school systems each year. He currently resides in Manalapan, NJ with his wife Karen, and in his free time enjoys gardening, photography, researching new technologies and spending time with his children.

 

John McDonough

John G. McDonough was born in Kearny, New Jersey. He received both his Batchelor’s Degree and Doctorate in Dentistry from Fairleigh Dickenson University in New Jersey.
John started in private dental practice in 1975 and shortly after moved to Edison. John and his wife Kathie have enjoyed watching there three boys John, Danny and Ray grow up in this community. They are now blessed to have two grandchildren living right around the corner from them.
John has been at his present location on Bridge Street in Metuchen since 1998. Since the mid 1970s John McDonough has had active membership in the Middlesex County Dental Society as well as the New Jersey Dental Association and a Fellow in the NJ Academy of General Dentistry. John has also been a long time member of the 3rd Millenium Study group.
John has had a long relationship with JFK Health System. To date he has held many prominent positions including: Chairman of JFK Medical Center Foundation, JFK Health System Board of Directors Member and Member of JFK Medical / Dental Staff Executive Committee to name a few.
Throughout his busy career John has found time for other activities too. John always tries to fit in a few rounds of gold whenever he and Kathie travel. He can often been seen on the golf course at Metuchen Country Club where he is a member. He looks forward to his mid-winter break in Mexico annually. Always looking for fun ways to stay fit and share a laugh John and Kathie have recently started dance lessons. Most people tend to slow down at this point in their life. John and Kathie are not your typical empty-nesters they just completed work on their new shore house after Super storm Sandy saw fit to destroy their original home.

Jayant Patel

 

 

Jayant P. Patel was born in 1950 in Gujarat, India. He graduated from Government Dental College and Hospital Ahmedabad, India in 1972 and started to practice dentistry in India. In 1974 he came to America and opened up his first private practice in Brooklyn, New York in 1977 - 2005. He also attended New York University, School of Dentistry. He opened another office in South Plainfield, New Jersey in 1995 and is still working there with his daughter and son-in-law. Dr. Patel currently lives in Edison, New Jersey with his wife Pragna Patel. He has two children, Ashish and Shruti, and a beautiful granddaughter Reva Luna.

Steven Resnick
Dr. Steven Resnick graduated from New York University College of Dentistry. For his superior achievements, he was elected to Omicron Kappa Upsilon, the National Dental Honor Society, and was presented with the Mosby Scholarship Award. He completed an intensive general practice residency program at Goldwater Memorial Hospital in New York City. In addition to his residency, Dr. Resnick trained in oral surgery at Bellevue Hospital in New York City and in pediatric dentistry at the Rose Kennedy Center for Exceptional Children in the Bronx.
Dr. Resnick is an Associate Clinical Professor at the New York University College of Dentistry in the Department of Cariology and Comprehensive Care. He serves as a Group Practice Director within that department and is a founder of the New York University College of Dentistry Program For Survivors of Torture, a program that provides comprehensive dental services for patients from all over the world who have been tortured by their governments and have come to America to seek political asylum.
Dr. Resnick has presented his successful concepts in dental education for the past four years at the annual meeting of the American Dental Educators Association (ADEA). He has published articles on esthetic onlays and is currently researching tooth whitening systems and shade matching devices. Dr. Resnick is a product evaluator and consultant to major dental manufacturing companies in the fields of restorative and cosmetic dentistry and periodontics.
For his advanced work in the field of root canal therapy, Dr. Resnick has been awarded the status of Fellowship in the American Endodontic Society. He is a Founding Member and a Fellowship Member of the International Dental Health Foundation, and has also served as its Chairman of the Board. Dr. Resnick has lectured nationally about the non-surgical treatment of gum disease, and his written explanations of the causes and available treatments for these diseases are found in dental offices across the country.
Dr. Resnick is also a member of the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry and has served on its Board of Directors. He is a Founding Member of the Association for Contemporary Dental Education and presently serves on its continuing education committee. He is also a Certified Clinical Researcher for the PEARL Network, a collaboration of academic researchers and experienced clinicians who have teamed together to gather data and uncover scientific truths pertaining to many of the current controversies in dentistry.
Dr. Resnick and his wife Sherrie have three children, A.J., Alison, and Jillian and are the proud grandparents of Sadie Rose and Charlotte Pearl.
